Amorkor (Coco) Armar is a beautiful soul based out of Virginia. She’s an aspiring lawyer, and her passion for service is at the core of everything that she does. Coco has learned so much about herself, her purpose, and her passions through traveling, and I love what she shares this week about the impact that traveling has had on her life and her perspective. It’s truly a beautiful experience to immerse ourselves in other cultures and experiences, and you never know just how it will impact your life.

It’s been so wonderful to connect with Coco over the last year and get to know her, and watch her chase and follow her dreams. We all have a purpose in this lifetime, and once we connect with it - everything changes. I know that Coco’s words on passion and living intentionally will touch you, and inspire you to continue to chase your dreams. I’m excited for you all to connect with her on her journey, learn more about her passions and joys, what’s next, and follow along!

I'd love it if you'd introduce yourself, what you do, and what you're working on.

My name is Amorkor Armar (pronounced uh-mo-ko) but my nickname is Coco; my name is traditional in my culture and means second daughter in the 'Armar' family. My parents are from Ghana, and I have visited, but my two older siblings and I were born and raised in Virginia. I graduated with my Bachelor of Science in Psychology and minors in Criminal Justice and Social-Welfare Sociology in 2017. Since then, I have been traveling and I have been working as a young professional, exploring several avenues. I am actively involved with mediation and conflict resolution and I am currently working on the process toward becoming a Lawyer so that I can work more profoundly with Dispute Resolution and Alternative Accountability Programs.

How did you get started?

It honestly all started with life experiences. I have an overall calm disposition and I am a peacemaker by nature. I found that a lot of people were comfortable opening up to me and I found that I had a genuine interest in helping and understanding others. I tended to seek opportunities to volunteer, donate, work in customer service roles, anything that would benefit someone/something else. Over time, I started to feel like this type of work was a calling for my life.

What inspired the work that you're doing?

My relationship with God. I aim to lead my life in a way that puts selfishness aside and makes room for service. His ultimate sacrifice of His Son on the cross reveals to me that I am forgiven for my sins and I have been given an opportunity to use the gifts and talents God has privileged me with to advance His kingdom. I do not look for something in return when I help others because I am doing it out of the genuine depths of my heart to bring honor and glory to God.

What is your biggest passion? Do you feel like you're living your passion and purpose?

I feel like I have a passion for overall progress and hard work. I cannot really pinpoint something specific because I feel those concepts apply to several areas of my life, but I do believe that I am walking in my purpose. It has been a journey with ups and downs but I feel like I am learning and growing each step of the way and there’s always room to improve.

What is your joy blueprint? What lights you up, brings you joy, and makes you feel the most alive?

I feel most alive when I travel (which I am fortunate to do at least once or twice a year) because I experience so many different cultures, lifestyles, and people. I get to learn from them and our interactions; the feeling is so exciting and empowering. Imagine meeting someone you may not ever see again.. your words/actions really matter- who knows, you may be impacting that person in some way or vice versa. I feel joy when I make a positive difference in someone’s life.

How do you live intentionally? Are there tools/resources/practices that you rely on to help you stay mindful and grounded?

I live life intentionally by setting goals and making plans to execute those goals. I have a routine which helps me stay organized and focused on what tasks need to be accomplished, what is worth my energy, what should take priority etc. I am also really intentional about time management- we all have the same 24 hours in the day. How are you using yours?

What would your younger self think about what you're doing now?

My younger self would be so proud. I have overcome so much and learned a lot about myself so that I can be in tune and maximize my full potential. I’ve needed every trial in my life to bring me where I am today.

Do you have a go-to mantra or affirmation?

"Mind over Matter" This has been my motto. Your mindset is a primary determinant of outcomes on your overall journey. Some experiences we have will be tough, but our mindset, belief in ourselves, and choices make all the difference- everyone has the ability to reach new heights never imagined...the decision is ours.

What is your biggest dream?

My biggest dream is to be financially stable/secure, own my own business and be able to provide more than enough for my family and those in need. I have every belief that this dream can come true, but I have a role to play. That is why I have to be intentional with the way I lead my life so that certain outcomes are realistic and possible for me.
