Happy #SeekTheJoy Tuesday!

On the podcast today is Mila Atmos, a global citizen based in New York City, and the producer and series host of Future Hindsight, a weekly podcast that aims to spark civic engagement through in-depth conversations with citizen changemakers.

What most informs Mila’s worldview is her belief that American democracy is a living, breathing mechanism whose wellbeing deserves to be cultivated and protected. Mila combines life experiences from living in multiple cultures ranging from Indonesia to Germany to the rural U.S. with her knowledge base in history, economics, and international affairs (B.A. & M.I.A. Columbia University) in creating Future Hindsight.

In today’s episode Mila and I chat about:

  • Future Hindsight, what inspired her to start the show, what she’s learned over the course of hosting the show, and how we can expand our perspective through conversation.

  • Civic engagement, what it really means to be engaged in our communities, why it’s an act of being mindful and intentional, and becoming more empowered through connection, conversation, and engagement.

  • Allowing civic engagement to be joyful, how remaining active in politics and our communities is actually a form of self-care, and making decisions that support our values.

  • Plus, Mila shares actions items that we can participate in as we get closer to the midterm elections here in the US, what’s keeping her hopeful, her biggest dream, and so much more!

I’m so excited to share this week’s new episode with Mila, and I can’t wait to hear what you think! Make sure to join the conversation on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter!

When something happens, we’re allowed to take a breather and mourn, regroup, and then start again. You can’t be on all the time! It can be incredibly difficult to be fully engage, but one of the things for me that’s really invigorating is being engaged and doing the work. I want people to have this information at their fingertips. I want them to know that they have power. I want them to know that there are things that they can do so that they can do them.
— Mila Atmos
That’s the thing about civic engagement, we’re enriching our civic lives with our participation.
