Listen now on Apple PodcastsSpotify, YouTube, Podbean Stitcher and more!

Happy #SeekTheJoy Tuesday!

On the podcast today is Scott Erickson, a touring painter, performance artist and creative curate who mixes autobiography, aesthetics, and comedic narrative to create experiences that speak to our deepest stories.

He is the author of Say Yes: Discovering the Surprising Life Beyond the Death of a Dream and Honest Advent, the coauthor of Prayer: Forty Days of Practice and May It Be So, a spiritual director to brave women and men, and a professional dishwasher for his food-blogging wife. Scott lives in Austin, Texas, with his wife and three children.

In today’s episode Scott and I chat about:

  • How to not give up on yourself and the three assumptions you need to address first.

  • Facing the voice of “giving up” and declaring that change is possible.

  • The difference between “I’lI never be” versus “I’m on my way” and how to thrive in a massive culture of comparison.

  • Plus, Scott shares how he reinvented himself to pursue his deepest passion, what he wants you to know about mid-life change ups, his biggest dreams nd so much more!

I’m so excited to share this week’s new episode with Scott, and I can’t wait to hear what you think! Make sure to join the conversation on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter!

Confronting a narrative, changing a narrative, is such a huge part of not giving up on your life, not giving up on yourself. It’s really changing the narrative of what you think you’re in, where you think you’re stuck, what all of this is.
— Scott Erickson
To implement a different story I say, ‘I’m on my way’. Instead of ‘I’m never going to be ‘ or ‘I never could do that’ I just go ‘I’m on my way towards being that.’ I’m on my way means if I fail at something it’s not evidence to the argument that I’m a failure, it just means I’m learning as I go and that’s part of the process. Everything is a learned skill and I’m on my way to learning how to do that. It might take me a couple of years but I’m on my way.
