Ep. 20 Making Your Passions Clear and Following the Things You Love with Elise Fabbro

Welcome back to Seek The Joy Podcast and happy #SeekTheJoy Tuesday!

On the podcast today is my friend Elise Fabbro. Elise and I met at USC and she was the president of our sorority, Alpha Chi Omega, when I joined.

Elise is an environmentalist to her core, but she's not your typical environmentalist - and she explains why on today's episode.

You won't find Elise hugging a tree (her words, which cracked me up by the way) but you will see her combining her love of the law and finance into making sure she has a positive impact on our environment.

Elise's passion for the environment began in high school after seeing Al Gore's "An Inconvenient Truth" speech live. From there, she studied environmental problems and solutions at USC, where she got both her Bachelor's and Master's degrees. She focused her studies in national and international environmental policy issues.

Elise wants to help businesses make the green decision. She explains in today's episode that after falling in love with corporate and tax law while pursuing her JD/MBA at Washington University in St. Louis, she decided to focus her career on corporate finance and working with companies that are environmentally-minded.

In 2015, Elise attended the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change Conferences of the Parties (COP 21) as a delegate from Washington University in St. Louis. Once there, she worked on tracking articles of the agreement in finance, and attended negotiations featuring climate leaders such as Al Gore. Elise participated in history, and I was so excited to chat with her about it on today's episode.

Elise sees herself moving forward in project finance related to renewable energy infrastructure, green real estate, or assisting environmentally-conscious businesses.

No matter what Elise does, I know she's going to be a success. Her passion and drive are undeniable, and you'll hear it in today's episode.

Elise is learning how to be her own version of an environmentalist. She's following her passions and she's forging her own path. I know so many of us can relate to creating or pursuing a life or career that aligns with who we are and what we want to do, but it may not fit the mold of what's expected of that particular industry. It may not even match what we had in mind for ourselves to begin with.

Either way - we're all figuring it out as we go - that I know for sure.

On today's episode we chat all about the importance of learning to follow the things you love, being honest about your limits, and making your passions really clear - both to yourself and to others. Because once you do, you'll be surprised by the magic and the opportunities that start to show up for you. Elise also shares with us the lessons she's learned from over working herself and burning out, what brings her joy, her life bucket list, and her advice for someone who is ready to jump into following their passions too.

I've known Elise for 7 years, and I learned SO much more about her during today's conversation. In many ways Elise is my environmental soul sista, and I'm excited to share her story and her journey with all of you.
