Welcome back to The Power of Storytelling!

Gia and Lindsay - thank you for sharing your stories, your words, and your journey with all of us.

This month’s episode reminded me that hindsight is really 2020, and our journey’s will always appear so much clearer when we look back with clear eyes, and a fresh perspective. When you’re in the middle of the journey, when you’re in the mud, the confusion, and the uncertainty, it’s normal and natural to second guess, to question, and to doubt. But when you stay the course, and you stay in trust - everything will unfold, the way it’s supposed to.

It’s truly my honor to share the stories and provide the space here to share a little bit more about the women behind these words. I encourage you to check out Gia and Lindsay after you listen to this week’s new episode.

Gia Duke is a life coach, speaker and author with a heart 10x the size of Texas, so some have said. Not to mention a soon to be podcaster, nonprofit founder, and foster youth and rescue pup advocate. She’s also the author of Get Your Heart On: The How-To Guide for People Who Want to Make a Difference. A passionate humanitarian and advocate for nonprofit and charity work, Gia has raised both awareness and funds, secured grants for and founded a nonprofit for foster youth, and has worked directly with animal rescue organizations. She has raised thousands of dollars and contributed hundreds of hours to causes in her community and across the globe.

In this week’s new episode, Gia shares her journey working to make a difference in the world from a space of heart, compassion, and determination to make it happen. Gia shares with us her love and passion to help people, who want to help people, take action to make a difference in the world. Gia’s goal is to inspire people to think about how we’re all connected and to remind them that most of us really want the same things. To love and be loved. To feel like we matter. She’s on a mission to brighten the world by creating more love, compassion, and understanding, and in this week’s new episode she offers her top tips to take care of ourselves, while taking care of others.

Through her work as a podcaster, speaker, facilitator, and creator of the Revolution Super Love movement, she is on a mission to brighten the world through creating more love, compassion, and understanding.

I was on the verge of burnout, trying to play ‘all’ the roles. I was constantly torn, often feeling guilty, and I was struggling to stay present and not hit a wall at the same time. I knew that I couldn’t keep this up, so I got a tattoo! It was a permanent self-care reminder, and I chose the word matter. To me that meant making a difference in the world, to matter, in my life and in the lives of others and to remind myself to matter, or be present, with whoever I’m with or whatever I’m working on. Eventually I started to help other people get started with their heart work, too.

Dr. Lindsay Weisner is a clinical Psychologist in Long Island, New York. She graduated from Georgetown University in 1999 and was awarded a fellowship in child development at the NIH/NICHD. She received her doctorate from C.W. Post, LIU, and went on to pursue post-doctorate training at the American Institute of Psychoanalysis.

Dr. Lindsay is the host of the Neurotic Nourishment Podcast and the co-author of the upcoming book Ten Steps To Finding Happy. This book will be released on March 20, 2020, in accordance with the United Nations International Day of Happiness.

In this week’s story, Lindsay shares her journey becoming a psychologist and writer, through the lens of her love for words and storytelling. She shares the impact that reading at a young age had on her life, and how her love for words propelled her to become an author, podcaster, and clinical psychologist. Books, and her love for reading, got her out of her own head and her own home. But - she didn’t love choose your own ending books! For her, there was nothing more annoying, she wanted hard and concrete facts. Lindsay’s home growing up, despite being perfect on paper, lacked a fine line between truth and fiction. You’ll hear it in this week’s episode, her experiences as a child and teenager impacted her need for a beginning, middle, and end - both in books, and in life.

Dr. Lindsay fell in love with psychology in college, and combined with her love of writing, she pursued a career in journalism. In this week’s new episode she shares the rejections she received, how she dealt with it, and the first job she landed after college. You’ll laugh her story about beanie babies . . . trust me.

I really want to spread awareness around the stigma of mental health, and how when we continue to shame people, hide mental health, or to silence those who are suffering, we’re making it worse. My biggest dream is to use my podcast, upcoming book, and any other platform I’m given to spread awareness about mental health and the need to de-stigmatize it, and let people openly talk about not feeling okay.
